Leadership Position Description

High Adventure Scout Coordinator

 


GENERAL INFORMATION
Type:
  Appointed by the Scoutmaster
Term:
  6 Months
Reports to:
  Scoutmaster (and High Adventure Senior Advisor in Scoutmaster's absence)
Description:
  Assists in planning High Adventure (HA) treks, provides Crew Chief and Crew training as needed, and assists in the planning/coordination of Crew logistical requirements.
Comments:
 

The Scout HA Coordinator should try to attend as many HA treks as possible to assist the Crew and Crew Chief and for his logistical planning/coordination capacity

This position does NOT qualify as leadership for Eagle Scout Rank advancement.

     
QUALIFICATIONS
Age:
  15 or higher
Rank:
  Life or higher
Experience:
  HA Crew Chief, Patrol Leader, SPL, ASPL, or Troop Guide
Attendance:
  50% over previous 6 months
     
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Training:
  You must attend the troop Junior Leader Training even if you have attended in the past.
Attendance:
  You are expected to attend a MINIMUM of 50% of all troop meetings, a MINIMUM of 50% of all Patrol Leader Council meetings, a MINIMUM of 50% of all outings (to include HA), and a MINIMUM of 50% of all service projects. If your attendance is low, or if you have three (3) unexcused absences in a row, you can be removed from office.

GENERAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Uniform:
  Set the example by wearing your uniform correctly.  This means that you will wear all of the parts of the troop uniform, shirttail tucked in, with all required badges in their correct locations.
Behavior:
  Set the example by living the Scout Oath and Law in your everyday life.  Show Scout Spirit in everything you say and do.
Attendance:
  Set the example by being an active Scout. Be on time for meetings and activities. You must call the Senior Patrol Leader or Scoutmaster if you are not going to be at a meeting or if you suddenly have to miss an outing. You also need to make sure that someone will assume your responsibilities in your absence.
     
SPECIFIC LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Attend, as a minimum, 50% of Patrol Leader Councils and in particular those in which HA treks need to be addressed
  • Screen candidates for HA trek/Crew Chiefs as to ability (physical and mental) to participate in and complete a HA trek
  • Assist in training/developing those Scouts who need help in being prepared (physically, mentally, and equipment)
  • Be a mentor to Crew Chiefs
  • Assist the Crew Chief as requested or as needed to train Crew prior to a HA trek
  • Identify and coordinate logistical requirements with the Crew Chief, and advise the HA Senior Advisor
  • Develop ideas for future HA treks and submit them to the Senior Patrol Leader and to the HA Senior Advisor
