Troop 159 Historian's Report
August 31 - October 26, 2005
by Ryan M.

I would like to introduce the new positions for this term. First we have our new senior patrol leader David S., our assistant senior patrol leader Brent H., troop guides Nate N. and Chris D. The wolverine patrol leader is Mac S., the assistant patrol leader is Ben W. The Rams patrol leader is James S., and assistant patrol leader is Mat Sevens. The librarian is Travis C., the scribe is Dustin H., the quartermaster is Eric C., and the Chaplans aid is Colin H. And last but not least, myself Ryan M., as historian.

On September 16-18 we had a family camp at Oconee State park. There were 8 families that went on this camp out. There was an early morning hike to a water wheel. The scouts started practicing lashings for the camporee. We served, hot dogs, and a special dinner to the families.

There was a high adventure hike on October 15. Colin, Mr. Newsome and Mr. Savacha all got new trail names. Colin's is "water bug" because he could not stand still, Mr. Newsome's is "the rock" because he was listening to his MP3 player during lunch. Mr. Savacha got the name "shutter bug" because he took one too many pictures. The high adventure group rose at an early 6:30 am and started the trek. They stopped at 11:30 to have lunch, unfortunately the trail became very hard as the hills steepened. Then at the top there was a break to take some pictures. Before going home they stopped for some ice cream. Which must have been a great reward.

Popcorn sales are now complete. The money raised will help in the purchase of tents and other camping needs. Thank you to Ms. Shelato and Mr. Koonz for their efforts in planning this event. The troop raised well over 6,000 dollars. Congratulations to our top seller Ryan S. who sold ?????????

Fall Camporee was Oct. 21-23. The theme this year was Medieval, which attracted the largest turn out of Scouts as compared to the last 2 Camporees. Rams patrol placed 2nd in the jousting tournament. We also won several other ribbons such as 1st place for best campsite, 1st place for lashings and 2nd place for the Little John event. We had some Webelos join us for a traditional medieval meal of turkey legs, potatoes and corn. Sunday morning we awoke to cooler temperatures but generally it was a great weekend.

This concludes the historian's report.
