Historian's Report - April 27, 2005
BY Dustin H.

Troop 159 Historian's Report Jan 2005 -April 2005

Since the last Court of Honor in January, we have had many great events. The first event was Robert Rocha's Eagle Court of Honor on January 30th. The ceremony was an event of great celebration, as all are when one is recognized as an Eagle Scout. The next important day was February 10, which was the 95th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.

Our February camping trip took place from the 18th thru 20th at Greenville Tech's Brashier Campus. The campout was important as several Webelos scouts came to visit on the 19th. The Webelos participated in several scouting skill events, like first aid and orienteering. On February 23rd, we as a troop elected Jeremy Baker as our Senior Patrol Leader for the next 6 months.

We started March with our monthly camping trip, again at the Brashier campus. Visiting Webelos scouts worked with the patrols to plan their menu. The Webelos were taught other scouting skills and had fun with the troop's scouts.

Next, the troop elected our leaders for the next six months. This helps the younger scouts learn how to lead and how to better themselves thru service to the troop.

On 12 March, Greg Bajan's Eagle Court of Honor was held at the Crossroads Community Church to honor another troop 159 Eagle scout. Congratulations Greg!

During spring break, the High Adventure crew of 10 people embarked on a 5 day, 50 mile hike on the Foothills Trail. The flu took its' toll on 1 advisor and 1 scout during the trek, so 8 total crew members completed the trek. The weather (in the form of 12 hours of heavy dew with lightning) contributed to the adversity the crew endured. Cream soda and snacks were the simple reward for a job well done!

April began with a training session for the junior leaders. This was held April 8 and 9 at Crossroads Community Church. Information and excitement was galore during these two days.

The camping trip for April added two more state parks to the list of parks that our troop has camped at taking the total up to 38 out of 40. On April 15 we visited the Poinsett State Park and on April 16 we visited the Cheraw State Park.
