Historian's Report - July 2004
BY Will J.

Over the past three months troop 159 has been very busy and has done many interesting things so Iought to get started with this edition of the historian's report.

On May 8th, we held Nick Jones's Eagle ceremony at Fountain Inn First Baptist. Then on the 14th, the troop went to Franklin North Carolina for some mining of Rubies and sapphires and we also went to an Old Jail house that is now a "gem museum:. Mr. Koontz even mined a 24-karat Ruby! Then from the 21st to the 22nd we held our troop JLT, the Junior Leader Training. On the 29th we placed flags on graves of veterans and even received recognition for our services from a few veterans.

June was quickly kicked off with Chase S. going to the Council JLT from the 6th to the 12th at Camp Old Indian .A day after the Council JLT finished the troop went to Camp Old Indian for our annual summer camp visit from the 13th to the 19th where Chris A., Nate N., Chase S., David J., and Dan Newsome took part in the OA Ordeal. The scouts had lots of fun and earned lots of merit badges at summer camp.

Our 1st July campout was the Suwanee trip in Florida where those who went got their 50 miler canoeing patch; we saw many springs along the way and had lots of fun all along the river and in the springs. On the 21st the troop went up to COI again for the OA Vigil Callout where Mr. Warlick was suprised with the award given to him at the callout (it is only given to OA members and those who have been helping out in scouts for a long time and have contributed to scouting in many ways,)
