Historian's Report - January 2004
BY CHRIS A. Next, we had a popcorn sale at the Wal-Mart in Simpsonville. There weren't a big number of sales, but we did sale some. Hopefully everyone that participated had fun. After that, our own Steve Shelato had his eagle ceremony. Lots of his relatives, friends, and fellow scouts showed up. He gave us lunch, cake, and ice cream. Congratulations Steve. Moving on to December. The first meeting was a gathering of items to send to our soldiers in Iraq. We gathered enough supplies for 15 boxes. That following weekend was a gathering of items to send to our soldiers in Iraq. We gathered enough supplies for 15 boxes. Following that, we had the popcorn prize auction in the gym. There were lots of prizes and items to buy. Our top seller this year was Justin C.. He won a bike. Congratulations Justin! Next, our troop did a service project at the Palmetto Expo Center. It was the Goodfellows project. We packed up canned and other types of food for needy families at Christmas. Some people got their fingers smashed. It was hard work but a lot of fun. Next came Lee Hollar's eagle ceremony. Again, there were lots of friends, relatives and scouts there to help him celebrate this big day. There was a lot of BBQ and cake for desert. Congratulations Lee! Finally comes January. Our High Adventure crew went on a 3 day backpacking trek in North Carolina. We stopped at Shining Rock and Cold Mountain. It was a cold weather trek and it was cold. We hiked around 15 miles. The crew was made up of Mr. Colvin, Mr. Jones, Mr. Carbaugh, Sean O., David S., Brent H., David J., Daniel Z., Chris D. and one new crew member Chris A.. Brent earned his trail name of "Die Hard" and Chris A. earned his of "Lightfoot". The second trip in January was the Asbury Hills campout last weekend. The best thing about this trip was the heated cabins. There was a cooking competition. The rams made shrimp and won the competition with the Vikings in second place, the Dawgs in third and the Wolverines in fourth. On Saturday everyone went on a hike to have lunch. The cooking was done on fires made with flint and sticks. Being very busy the last few months has been a lot of fun. We are looking forward to the adventures in the months to come. This concludes the historians report for this meeting.
