Information About Troop
159
The chartering organization for Boy Scout Troop
159 is Simpsonville United Methodist Church (SUMC).
The troop meets every Wednesday night at SUMC.
The meetings begin at 7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall and end around
8:30 PM.
Troop 159 participates in many activities.
These include at least 12 camping trips each year along with several
service projects (adopt a highway, Scouting for food, Goodfellows)
throughout the year. Please see our calendar
of events for the remaining activities this year. We hope
that you can join us in some of those events.
We have over 30 scouts whose ranks range from Scout to Eagle.
There are 4 boy-run patrols
(Foxes, Vikings, Wolverines, and Rams). The scouters in the "Fossil"
patrol provide appropriate guidance.
Every year, the troop leadership (Troop Committee + Fossils + Patrol
Leader Council) review and plan the years activities. These
meetings occur each January and are revisited through quarterly
review meetings. The results of these planning meetings are
reflected by our calendar of events.
Some of the highlights from recent years include summer camp at
Camp Old Indian, treks through Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico,
caving, and state park mania in which over 7 state parks were visited
in a year, week-long canoeing trips on the Suwannee River, FL, visits
to the National Jamboree, and much more.
Troop 159 is part of the Southbounder
District of the Blue
Ridge Council, BSA in
Greenville, SC. Our troop is active in district and council
events every year. We have won several awards
over the past years for which we are proud of our accomplishments.
Several of our scouters are active members of district boards.
Many of our scouts and scouters are active members of the Order
of the Arrow and the local OA Lodge (Attakullakulla
185).
