Last Weekend:    JLT Inspires the Best of the Best

This past weekend the scout leadership attended a rigorous training session at beautiful Camp Fellowship in Greenwood.  There were no lectures or pamphlets or homework assignments at this JLT; just pure hard work and hard-core, hands-on leadership.  The scouts defined the impossible and defied the gods by using their skills to balance their team on a giant teeter-totter, build a bridge with blind people, save the Dumbonians from certain stupidity, and cross an alligator-infested swamp with sheer knowledge, know-how, and Lilly pads.  Sound fun?  Guess again.

It takes leadership to complete these dangerous tasks.  And not just any leadership, but good leadership.  OK, honestly?  They had their tough times, but they came out on top.  No, really.  In fact, the Troop 159 leadership did something no one has ever seen done before.  With mere slabs of wood, these skillful troops traversed a bottomless 15 foot wide gap; no nails, no glue, no clue.  But they did it.  OK, it wasn't bottomless- but they acted like it was.  Their only tools were their brains, their muscles, and their body weight.  The boards didn't fit and gravity didn't help, yet, by some miracle I would like to call teamwork, they made it over the gap.  For the first time in history; and they have pictures to prove it.  These are the leadership of Troop 159.  They may not walk on water, but they're working on it.
